Thanks Target

A few weeks ago, I posted about a sunburst mirror from Target. Well, it arrived a few weeks ago but I finally got around to painting it this past weekend. Here are some pictures from my little DIY project:

1st I had to pop the mirror out of the center, which was extremely simple. As you can see, the finish was pretty but just a little too dark for our room.
This valspar paint was awesome and didn't require any priming!
 Tah-dah!!
It gives this blank wall and this corner a little pop. Hopefully I can find some other smaller ones to add and make a little cluster. I also love how it pulls from the sterling silver frames on my credenza.
Totally worth it for the cost of the mirror and a can of spray paint. Thanks Target!!

Vacation!

I am really excited to be heading to Cabo this weekend.
I am in desperate need of a little R&R and with views like this, I think Cabo will be just what the doctor ordered!
I've got a great book, my adorable towel from la Poule Rousse, lots of sunscreen (my fave being from Clinique), a few pair of cool shades, and my favorite beach tote. And we're off!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Credenza of the Week: Ellen Pompeo

This credenza comes to us from the home of Ellen Pompeo. Her home, which was featured in Elle Decor, features design work by Martin Lawrence Bullard. I love the details of the black credenza but also love how the ottoman, rug, mirror and framed photo play off the black. The accessories and lamp designed by Nathan Turner are perfect and look ideal in scale. Well done! I really love this piece!

More Reading & a Great Coupon!

Following up with my last post, here are a few more books I have enjoyed that I would recommend:
A little sad but mostly so sweet with a very happy ending!

A must read! Such a great story...You'll finish it in a week :)

Not my favorite but a really interesting story

So AWESOME for a wedding or shower. Love this idea!!

Fantastic New Show

I am absolutely in love with Sarah 101 on HGTV!! Sarah and her assistant, Tommy,  walk you through their beautiful design projects and inspire & teach every step of the way!! Her personality is upbeat and creative (not annoying like many of the others) and Tommy also has flawless taste. Mostly I love that the show really gives you a look inside their thought process...as a want-to-be designer, it's so fun to hear why they select the fabrics, trim, and paint that they do!!

HGTV says is best, "Sarah 101 is a back-to-basics crash course in design that breaks every project into simple building blocks and showcases Sarah’s signature approach of tips and tricks to solve design problems, so that you can transform any room in your home!"

Here are a few pictures from their room re-do's that I LOVE:

What's more, is they also include a Shopping Guide for each episode!! For instance, click here to see the Shopping Guide for this awesome, masculine "Sophisto-Nursey":
Tune in and watch this great new show!! Yay Tommy and Sarah :)

Raw Wood

I have seen a few uses of raw wood lately that I really like. They can give a cool rustic look  to a room or make a neat backdrop for a piece of art.

Here is a really cool headboard:
I also really love these:
and this one from Songbird:
West Elm also had a very cool picture display on their wall the last time I was in the store:
What do you think? Sophisticated or weird?

Outdoor Dining DIY

Since we are now experiencing gorgeous, cool temperatures in Austin, I have been thinking of all sorts of fun things to do outside our home to make our backyard even more beautiful and enjoyable.

This summer while we were in France, we ate at an incredible restaurant in Avignon called La Mirande. The restaurant, situated in a charming hotel, has a beautiful patio and garden which offer a stunning experience in the heart of Provence. Situated just across the street from the ancient papal palace, you can enjoy an incredibly delicious meal with beautiful rose bushes, fruit trees and the turrets of the castle hanging over you. It's divine!
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal (I included a few cute pics of myself & the Mr with my parents) and also LOVED the retractable pergola that covered the patio at night. It did not obscure any of the view and instead created a royal-like canopy.
Since we have been back in Austin, we constantly talk about putting one in our own backyard....
Yesterday, I ran across this post on the Luxist where I saw one for sale via Plow & Hearth. Unfortunately, it costs about $1,000 and requires assembly.
For that,  we are considering building our own...Keep you posted on this outdoor project!

Trailer Treats

One of the many things Austin has going for it, is all the trailer eateries that have popped up all over the city.  Now that it is finally cooling down a little, it is fun to enjoy all the incredible food these little places have to offer.
One of my favorites is Odd Duck. Their food booth at ACL was divine!

I am thinking of starting a little dinner party group that travels to a new travel ever so often. This is one of the next ones I want to try. I hear it's absolutely delicious!
What better way to kick off our little supper club than by attending Austin's Gypsy Picnic this weekend at Auditorium Shores where all these yummy trailer eateries will gather in one spot for a perfect Saturday of sampling!! If you are in Austin this weekend, be sure to attend:

Have a great day and a delicious weekend!!

Perfect Fall Bag at AE

US Magazine featured "the best fall bags" in the latest issue:
One of those was the AEO Fringe Bag at AE.com for $39.50:
Super cute! Great price! and the perfect treat for fall :)

La Poule Rousse

One of my favorite little shops we found in France this summer was La Poule Rousse. It is this adorable little shop in Villefranche and the owner, Pascal, is precious. She sells everything from towels, throws & blankets, baby bath towels, robes & bibs to makeup bags and beach totes. They are all made from this extremely soft material which absorbs more and more water each time it gets wet.
They come in a ton of different colors and patterns!
This is one of the ones that I bought:
I highly recommend giving as gifts. Hope to shop there in person someday soon!

Wedding Wednesday: Table Cards

I like all the new fun takes on table cards at weddings. It is a fun opportunity to implement some color, style and creativity. Here are a few fun examples:
Such a fun way to get creative and colorful!
