One Kings Lane

For those of you who have not yet visited this site, it is worth a look: click here. Similar to Rue La La and several other discount online shopping site, this site is for things for the home. Through Saturday, Random House is having a sale of design and coffee table books. I took this opportunity to buy a few for myself in hopes to further my education in home design and decor.
All these beautiful coffee table books are hardcover and between $20-$40. I know my coffee table is certainly in need of a little love. Not a bad price! Don't forget that Mother's Day is just around the corner...

Wedding Wednesday: Big Long Tables

I have to say that I really love big long tables at weddings. At our wedding, we had no choice but to have twelve top circular tables dispersed across the room. A big long table would not have worked. I think it can be done well in may ways,
1) If you are having a smaller, more intimate affair then everyone can feel included by being at the same table with the bride and groom.
2) If you are having a larger wedding, it can be easier and more fun to have long tables and mix things up a little.
3) A bride and groom can sit with both sides of the family or with their wedding party (to avoid reverting back to the cliche "head table" at the reception, have this long table situated amongst all the others. There is nothing worse than having to face the entire room while eating (especially if you are in some hideous taffeta creation.)

Here are a few photos of some sumptuous long tables that I love:
This table features large potted plants along the center of the table.
But this is my absolute favorite! Nothing says romance like a wine garden and chandeliers. Well done!
All of these and many more can be found on my FAVORITE wedding blog, Style Me Pretty! If you aren't addicted yet, you will be!

Credenza of the Week: All About Blue

We are in the midst of a selling frenzy. I have about seven posts on craiglist at the moment since we are trying to part with all our old furniture currently in the Living Room, most of which is from college or right after. In the meantime, I'm also in a desperate research mode to find the new "look" we want to accomplish in that space. Well, I stumbled upon this old issue of House Beautiful which displays a gorgeous room in a soft blue.
I think I may be onto something...
What a comfortable and serene space. The symmetry of the lamps, side tables and chairs coupled with the soft color choice, puts the mind right at ease.
The lucite credenza on the opposing wall looks so elegant and refined.
It's sleek, simple yet makes a big impact in the room. Oh how I love this room! What a beautiful space. Happy Happy Tuesday!

Brand New Blue Bath

The Mr and I have been so pleased with how our bedroom and bathroom paint looks that we finally got the nerve to tackle our least favorite room in the house...the hallway bathroom. We have hated the color of the walls since we first stepped in the door but have not changed it yet....well, a few weeks ago when our Horns took on the Aggies felt like the perfect time for us to take on our own maroon bathroom!
Picking the right color:
It's primed and ready for a fabulous new look:
Here is what inspired my direction for this bathroom: I found this post on one of my new favorite blogs and it reminded me of our bathroom.
Mr was adamant that we not paint the bathroom cabinet and we are not interested in investing the $$ to change the tile, so I had dark brown cabinets and cream tile to work with. Mostly, we needed a lighter paint color to liven and lighten this space since it is a hallway bathroom with no windows. Well here is a look at the final product:
Tah Dahhhh! Finally something a little more soft. We are so happy with how things turned out. Have a great week!

Credenza of the Week

Here is another glam credenza that I am ogling over. The highgloss black against that modern wallpaper coupled with the thin bases of the two lamps are awesome. But I think my favorite thing is how this designer contrasts the large circular mirror with the rectangular shades on front of it to make sure that they eye goes horizontal and vertical. What an artful piece of furniture.

Happy Friday! If you're like me, you're longing for the old days of Spring Break. Ohhhhh well (sigh), two days will just have to do....

Black and White Done Right

Black and white can be tough to master! Here are some examples where designers have created a cohesive and tasteful look without it looking broken up.
Notice how these designers implemented pops of primary colors into their scheme:
This may be my favorite. I love the yellow sofa and the floor is to die for!
One gal who has mastered the art of pairing Black and White is The Glamouri! Props to her for creating an inviting yet glamourous look with so much creativity and thought. Look at what a gorgeous space!
Even her odds and ends look perfect!
Here is a way to give old furniture a stylish new look in chic black and white!

Hope this gives you some ideas! Black paint is becoming extremely popular right now but more coming on that another day...Just thinking :)

Wedding Wednesday: Perfect Backyard Ceremony

We all remember the image that came into Steve Martin's head in Father of the Bride when he heard Annie say "I was thinking about a wedding at home"... the picnic tables, crepe paper, the Father of the Bride in an apron over the grill...

From the moment I was a little girl, that image was the thing that popped in my head every time I heard the words backyard wedding, but this Austin couple sure did it right! What a gorgeous day! Here are a few other black and whites that the photographer captured:

This bride gets an A+ for making simple look so elegant.
Lovely! Happy Hump Day
